Reading Response
AR technology is definitely a helpful tool to improve museum visiting experience. An interesting point in this week's reading is that using cellphones as a scanner, in which context the device itself is no longer a distraction, but a proper tool. However, in some case, it seems not as vivid as we think. For instance, when visitors use AR technology at a zoo to simulate that they're really touch and play with wild animals, all they can do is watching the screen of simulation effects while touching the air, which makes it a little wired to me. In some way, considering its attribute, AR experience should focus more on visual effects rather than physical engagement.
Trip Observations
When visiting the gems exhibit, at a moment we noticed that a father told his daughter to stand in front a display case of a shiny crown and took a picture of her "wearing" it, which was exactly what we thought as a motivation in our concept.
We also noticed that the hallway in the museum is too narrow to put any extra devices there, so we may need to change the appearance and settings for our virtual mirror.
