CC Lab OF Final Project

Insights

For my Openframeworks final project, I want to continue with my mid-term project which got the inspiration from Thor and let the audience to play with the power of thundering. From my interest in Marvel's series, I think having superpower is a fascinating thing, especially when the power of each character is closely related to their personality. It is the unique personality that makes each character vivid and real, which also decides what kind of action they are going to take when facing choices.

Concept

Using basic openframeworks functions, I want to create a series of dynamic posters of Marvel characters. Every poster should has a unique feature according to the character’s specialty.

Research

  • I chose two characters from Marvel Universe: Loki and Spider Man.

  • For each character, I analyze the features of their power and personality. Loki's power is creating illusions, and he is cunning and mysterious. Spider Man has spider silk as a strong weapon. Because of the young age, he is very active and always trusts the power of justice. According to these features, I decided to add dynamic elements onto the poster.

  • For Loki's poster, there are two main functions: changing background color and typography effect. For Spider Man's, the functions are drawing spider silk on the poster and a spider-silk-like typography effect.

Reflections

From this project, I realize that it is very interesting to show the features of some stuff in a visual way. It is also worthwhile to leave some part blank and give the audience a chance to participate in creating process. Even though Marvel's stories seem like shallow pop-corn movie, there are still a lot of metaphors and meanings we can dig into. What's more, it is crucial to keep the balance between technology and design intentions. Technology can be a powerful tool to realize design intentions, but it should not take the place of the concept itself.
